Toilet Twinning
We’re proud to support Toilet Twinning, a charity campaign which helps provide proper toilets, clean water and hygiene education in some of the poorest communities on the planet.
It works like this: you ‘twin’ your toilet with a latrine overseas – and provide a loo for a poor family, helping them take those first crucial steps out of generational poverty.
For £60, you receive a special certificate to hang in your loo, complete with a colour photo of your toilet twin and its GPS coordinates.
Why Toilet Twinning is important
2.4 billion people don’t have somewhere safe, clean and hygienic to go to the loo. That’s more than a third of the people on the planet.
It’s estimated that half a million children under the age of five die every year of diseases related to poor sanitation and unclean water. That’s almost one every minute.
A simple pit latrine is literally a life-saver in the poor communities where Toilet Twinning works. If a family can keep clean and healthy, they have more time to farm and to work, and they spend less on healthcare. So they have more money for things like sending their children to school. Gradually, as people start to build toilets and learn about simple hygiene practices such as handwashing, the whole community is transformed.
